Communion I Lompoc

What does it mean to truly gather at a table? This message takes us on a journey through one of the most profound and ancient practices of the Christian faith: communion. Rooted in Luke 22:14-20, we discover that the night Jesus instituted this sacred meal was no ordinary evening. He sat with people who would betray, deny, and abandon him, and yet he broke bread with them anyway. That detail alone reshapes everything we think we know about what it means to belong at this table. The central lesson is both humbling and liberating: the table is not a celebration of how faithful we have been to Jesus, but a celebration of how faithful Jesus has been to us. Salvation is received, not achieved. As we explore the different theological views of communion, from transubstantiation to spiritual presence, we are drawn past the debate into the beating heart of why this practice matters. Biblical remembrance, we learn, is never merely intellectual. It is meant to produce gratitude, obedience, trust, and worship. Every time we partake, something stirs within us that is deeper than memory. It is an encounter with a living Savior who is still at work among his people.
